What do mice look like?

In Colorado, there are two different types of mice that property owners are likely to find in and around their homes and structures; they are the house mouse and the deer mouse. While both types of mice are similarly sized (2.5 - 4 inches long, not including the tail), they have different coloring.

The house mouse has smooth fur that is usually dusty-gray, brownish-gray, or gray on top and light gray on the belly. The tail of this mouse is uniformly dark and semi-naked. The deer mouse is bi-colored, ranging from pale gray to deep reddish-brown on top and white underneath. Its tail is about half the length of its combined head and body length and is covered with short hairs.

Are mice dangerous?

Although mice don’t appear to be dangerous, they can pose a serious health hazard to you, your pets and to your home.

  • Mice spread serious diseases through their droppings as well as spread parasites that they carry in their fur.
  • They chew on drywall, wood and even electrical wires, which can be the cause of electrical fires in your home.
  • They contaminate insulation with their droppings and urine.
  • Mice destroy personal possessions, especially in storage areas.

Why do I have a problem with mice?

Mice enter homes and businesses to find food, water, and shelter. They only need a hole or a crack the diameter of a dime, so even the tiniest entry point can allow these pests into your home.

Mouse infestations can get out of hand quickly. A single pair of mice can lead to a major rodent problem. Did we mention they are prolific breeders with a short gestation period? They are.

How do you get rid of mice?

To get rid of mice you must eliminate the conditions that attract them in the first place. Sealing possible entry points and removing access to food and water sources may help deter these pests. Prevention is important but the best way to completely get rid of mice is to contact the rodent control professionals at EnviroPest.

Is the treatment for mice safe?

The treatment for eliminating rodents from your home does not present a health risk for your family and your pets. We strive to use proactive Integrated Pest Management (IPM) solutions whenever possible. This reduces or eliminates the use of traditional pest control chemicals around your home.

How much does the mouse control service cost?

How can I prevent a mouse problem from re-occurring?

Preventing rodents can be a challenge, but it isn’t impossible. Sealing entry points, eliminating food sources as well as potential areas for harborage can help reduce your chances of playing host to house mice and deer mice in Colorado.

Our Colorado's Choice plan is a great option to keep mice and other common pests out of your home all year-long.
