Mice Information

Mice are very harmful pests, damaging and eating crops and spreading diseases through their parasites and feces.

What kind of Mice do I have?

Two types of mice are common in Colorado. The house mouse is a smaller rodent that has a slightly pointed nose; small, black, somewhat protruding eyes; larger ears; and a nearly hairless. They are generally grayish brown with a gray or buff belly. The deer mouse has white feet, usually white undersides, and brownish upper surfaces. Their tails are relatively long, sometimes as long as the head and body. Their tails are also sharply bi-colored. In comparison to house mice, Deer mice have larger eyes and ears.

Are they dangerous?

Yes. The deer mouse transmits the potentially fatal Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome. The disease can be transmitted through contact with mouse carcasses, or by breathing in aerosolized urine droplets of infected deer mice. Micro droplets of mouse urine can cause allergies in children. Mice can also bring fleas, mites, ticks and lice into your home.

Why do I have them?

Mice are commensal, that is, they share space with humans and partially depend upon us to survive. They require food, shelter and water in order to survive, and therefore are always looking for them. They can enter a hole less that 1/4" in diameter. Most structures are not sealed appropriately, leaving many entry points for rodents.

How do you get rid of them?

Getting rid of mice can be a tricky task as they are very elusive creatures. That's why our service includes the necessary products and follow up visits for one fee. Our treatment method consist of the following:

Initial Service - Detailed inspection of the entire structure identifying areas of activity and entry points. Entry holes less than one inch in diameter are sealed using a copper mesh material. Our technician will point out any larger issues and if appropriate, recommend our Repair & Restoration Division.

Enclosed Snap traps or other mechanical traps are setup on the inside. Tamper resistant thick plastic stations containing rodent bait are anchored to the ground outside. We do not use bait inside. Baiting inside can cause odor issues and potential health risks.

Follow up - The follow up visit is scheduled within 10 days of the initial treatment. During this visit, our technician will inspect the devices that were installed, resetting - adding or moving them as required. Additional bait added, and any additional entry points found up to one inch in diameter will be sealed.

This is a one-time service. For greater protection and money savings learn about Colorado's Choice Seasonal or Colorado's Select Commercial programs.
