Bat Information
Bats are natural reservoirs or vectors for many pathogens such as rabies, SARS, and possibly Ebola virus.
What are these Bats?
The most common bats in our area are called little brown bats. They generally brown and black in color and similar in size to a mouse.
Are they dangerous?
Bats are natural vectors for many pathogens including rabies. In addition, bats can carry bat bugs (similar to bedbugs) and fleas. Direct contact with bats should be avoided.
So why do I have them?
Just like us, bats need a good home. They feed during the evening and night hours, then roost in warm area during the day. This can include attics, behind shutters, soffits, etc. Having a bat problem is generally by chance.
How do you get rid of them?
Getting rid of bats can be a tricky and dangerous task. It requires extensive bat knowledge as well as construction and safety know-how. That's why our service includes the necessary eviction, exclusion and cleanup services needed, for one fee. Our method consist of the following:
Initial Service - Detailed inspection of the entire structure identifying areas of activity and entry points. All entry points with the exception of one or two are sealed. One way devices are installed to allow the bats to get out, but not back in.
Follow up - A follow up is scheduled within 14 days of the initial service. During this service, the remaining areas are sealed, and if elected, the cleanup procedure is started. This includes removal of droppings and contaminated insulation. The area is then disinfected and treated for bat bugs and fleas. If desired, new insulation is then blown in.
