common colorado mosquito in fort collins

Mosquitoes are well-known to spread diseases such as West Nile Virus

What kind of mosquitoes are these?

The most common species of mosquito found in Loveland, Greeley, Fort Collins, and elsewhere in Colorado is the Culex. They on average are pale brown with whitish stripes across the abdomen and can grow to 1/4" to 3/8" long.

Are they dangerous?

Mosquitoes are well-known to spread diseases such as West Nile Virus, malaria and dengue fever.

So why do I have them?

Generally, it's due to standing water, which is a breeding source on or near your property. This can be pools, tires, clogged gutters, heavy watering practices, bird feeders and more. Female mosquitoes suck our blood. Male mosquitoes feed on plant nectar. They can develop from egg to adult in 10 to 14 days. They are most active from dusk to dawn and will fly up to 14 miles for a blood meal.

How do you get rid of them?

Getting rid of mosquitoes is nearly impossible. However, reducing breeding sites and treatment can significantly reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home or business. That's why our mosquito service includes the necessary treatment and breeding source reduction needed, for one fee. Our mosquito treatment method consists of the following:

One-Time Service - Detailed inspection of the entire area, identifying areas of activity and breeding sources. A treatment around the foundation, shrubs, bushes and lawn is applied to eliminate mosquito resting areas. Any breeding sources found will also be treated or corrected if possible.

Optional Maintenance - Monthly treatment throughout the summer months will greatly diminish the mosquito activity around your home or business.
