Here we are - Thanksgiving time once again, and to most people this means food! Family gathered around the dining room table loaded down with delectable, mouth-watering food; golden turkey with all the fixings, Aunt Judy's famous mashed potatoes, honey-sweetened sweet potatoes, stuffing, peas, carrots, cranberry sauce and that green bean casserole thing.
If you noted the sense of urgency in the blog title, it’s because there is. We don’t want to burst anyone’s summer bliss bubble but winter is closing in. Sure it’s a few months away but we have to get in the mindset that it is coming and it’s already causing a stir amongst insects and rodents in Loveland.
You know that this time of year is when we turn our attention to the first harvest of late summer and begin to reap the benefits of our hard spring and summer’s work. It’s always a rewarding experience to pick those first ‘sprouts’ of vegetables and steam up the green beans, sauté the peppers and scallions, or boil up some beets. There’s nothing like the taste of those fresh from the garden sprouts on a balmy late summer evening! Here in Colorado, however, our vegetables are not the only thing that has sprouted this year.
Pests can damage our homes and make us sick. So, it shouldn't be surprising that they elicit an emotional response when we see them or think about them. And all those bad emotions are going to have an effect over time. Studies show that the more you frown, the more wrinkles you will develop, and the older you will appear.
