Although they make look innocent, mice are often responsible for significant damage to Colorado homes |
Last week marked the beginning of fall and although the days are still warm, it is the appropriate time to remember that rodents are likely to enter our homes soon in search of the ideal overwintering site. In additions to ants, earwigs and spiders, mice are a very common fall pest problem and are often responsible for extensive property damage including chewed electrical wiring, contaminated insulation and even structural damage. To prevent rodents from making themselves at home in your home EnviroPest would like offer homeowners in Fort Collins, Loveland and throughout Colorado these rodent proofing tips:
-
Store food in sealed containers
-
Clean up any spills and crumbs on counters, floors and under appliances immediately
-
Empty trash regularly
-
Seal any gaps, cracks or crevices in the foundation and around utilities
-
Apply weather stripping around doors and windows
-
Cover vents and drains with screens
-
Replace or repair screens in doors and windows and seal off pet doors
-
Keep shrubs and tree limbs trimmed away from your house
-
Store firewood several feet from your home and well off the ground
-
Remove bird feeders and other sources of food from your yard
-
Do not keep pet food outside overnight or for extended periods
-
Eliminate clutter in your attic, basement and garage
-
Store belongings in containers that can withstand gnawing
-
