Loveland Pest Control Pros Urge You To Avoid Wasps And Stinging Insects This Summer

Don't let wasps and other stinging insects ruin your BBQ, contact EnviroPest today!

The warm weather has arrived in Fort Collins, Loveland and all across Colorado and is bringing people outdoors to enjoy barbequing, gardening and relaxing by the pool.  Unfortunately warm weather also brings wasps out.  This time of year, we at EnviroPest, a long time Colorado pest control company, always start receiving calls from homeowners asking what they can do to get rid of wasps.  Although wasps and other stinging insects, such as bees and yellow jackets, are difficult and often times dangerous to get rid of and should only be attempted by a professional pest control company, there are a couple of precautions you can take to ensure your time outdoors is more enjoyable and sting free!

Wasps are typically beneficial outside; they eat caterpillars and other annoying aphids.  Unfortunately when they attend backyard parties and BBQ’s they have the ability to cause a considerable amount of stress with their ability to sting and send party-goers to the emergency room with potentially severe allergic reactions.  If hosting a picnic, be sure to keep food indoors until it is ready to be served.  Just like ants, stinging insects like the food we eat and are attracted to fruit, salads and sweet drinks, so not leaving them out too long, before or after dinner, is a great way to avoid attracting these unwelcomed guests.

When gardening or completing yard chores, be sure to cover up!  Be sure to wear shoes, socks, long pants and shirts.  To ensure wasps and other stinging insects do not get inside your clothing, make sure all articles fit snuggly.  Gardening gloves are a great, light-weight way to keep your hands protected as well.  Also, plant fruit trees and bushes away from your home and keep the areas around them free of debris and decaying fruit.

It is impossible to keep wasps, bees, yellow jackets and other stinging insects from making nests on your property, but with a few simple precautions you can potentially avoid painful encounters.  And with the help of EnviroPest, you can keep their numbers down this year.

If you live in Fort Collins or elsewhere in Colorado and need help getting rid of wasps or other stinging insects, please contact EnviroPest today!
